Latest Progress

June 18, 2011
After an obstacle course of technical difficulties, the paperback version of "Finding My Father" is 99.9% ready! I expect to see my "proof" copy by the middle of next week. Hopefully, it'll look good and I can give CreateSpace the go-ahead to mass-produce that bad boy! Praying to God everything lines up correctly and looks good. Sending my dad my warmest thoughts and love for Fathers Day as well!

A Death...

My father-in-law passed away Friday night. Makes me think of my dad more and feeling the need to connect.... Very sad.

Update on Book

May 1, 2011
I am currently working on, or should I say "struggling with" the cover design for "Finding My Father," the print edition. Basically, I'm using many of the same graphics that comprised the cover of the ebook version. The tricky part is the back cover. I want to add text, ISBN & author photo to what is already there. I'm trying to do everything myself and save $299 (at least) that it would cost to have a professional do it. This is the only thing holding me up! Well, that and I have to schedule...

Cousin Christy

April 5, 2011
Got a Facebook message from yet another cousin I did not know I had!

Hello Holly, I'm your cousin Christy. My Mother is your Dad's sister Frances. I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I hope to meet you and my Uncle Junior someday, until then, I'm sending lots of Hugs and Kisses. Please tell your Father my Mother has always talked about him and misses him terribly. We all love him very much! God Bless you both!

I hope that whatever Higher Power is in charge of our collective F...

The Book...

March 23, 2011
Supposedly my book is being looked over by the editorial team at CreateSpace now. Not sure how long that'll take. Trying to find a template for the cover. Wish I could find one similar to the ebook.

The Book

March 17, 2011
I am a little frustrated with the publisher I have chosen for Finding My Father. Serious lag time and lack of communication. I should've stuck with Outskirts. Sorry for the delay, folks!

March 10 update

March 11, 2011
Got a card recently from Dad, with nothing written inside. Very unusual. As bad as his tremor is on his right hand side, he ALWAYS manages to scrawl some short personal message, even if it's something as simple as "Love, Your Dad." Is this just a case of absent-mindedness, or Alzheimer's related??

In other news, be watching this website for a new page, featuring links to great resources on the web about Alzheimer's and brain health.

The print version of Finding My Father will be available in a...

Marathon Writing Session!

February 22, 2011
Yesterday was, of course, Presidents Day, and I had a very productive day off. I literally spent six solid hours in front of my computer, working on the revisions for "Finding My Father." Since I've reconnected with his family, there is a lot more to the story since I published the ebook version. They were able to fill in some of the holes in my dad's past, as well as opening new doors of hope for his future. I'm so happy with the way things are going. My biggest hurdle right now is get...

Valentine

February 16, 2011
I sent my father a Valentine card right ON Valentine's Day. He should receive it today... better late than never! It was really hard for me to find an appropriate one to send him. There really is a serious gap in the greeting card market when it comes to Valentines for Dads! There are lots of cards for Moms, and some "To Mom and Dad," but the few Valentines for fathers are either cartoon ones for kids to give "To Daddy" or really sentimental ones that say things like "Thanks for always being ...

Birthday Card

February 3, 2011
I got a birthday card from Dad last week. It was actually a Christmas card. He crossed out "Merry Christmas" and scrawled "Happy Birthday" in his trademark chicken scratch. I got the biggest kick out of that! Alzheimer's may have stolen more than its share of memories from him, but my dad never has forgotten that his little girls birthday is January 31st!
